Hollywood is Going Digital with UltraViolet

Share |

In some interesting tech news out of CES that landed in our inbox, six Hollywood studios have announced support for new "UltraViolet" branded media that includes digital downloads as well as traditional Blu-Ray and DVD discs. Users will create a cloud-based account and will be able to watch purchased media on up to 12 UltraViolet registered devices. The six studios that have signed-on include Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal, and Warner.

"Complementing the physical DVD and Blu-ray home entertainment markets, studios will begin offering UltraViolet content this year through digital online retailers and digital rights that come with packaged media, giving consumers the ability to watch digital entertainment across multiple platforms such as connected TVs, PCs, game consoles and smartphones."
