Paradox Interactive and Fatshark today announced details on an upcoming content update for War of the Roses that will launch in November, which will include new weapons, armor, map modes and at least two new maps.

“This November, War of the Roses will see its first new content drop, which will introduce a wide variety of weapons, including a horn-spanned crossbow for ranged enthusiasts and a Hospitaller pollaxe made famous by the company of knights bearing the same name. Players will also be able to get their gritty hands on the Milanese Knights Hospitaller crafted Heavy Armor, which can be customized with any of 10 different paint options, as well as an assortment of new visors and one new helmet.

Come winter, knights should start preparing for two new challenging game modes and snow-laden maps as the war for the crown of England heads into the harshest months of the year. The first mode being introduced is Pitched Battle, where soldiers for the houses of Lancaster and York will soon learn to value their lives. The upcoming mode is launching into beta very soon, and interested players should keep an eye on the forum for more details.

Two new maps are also confirmed, inspired by the battles of Wakefield and Towton. With both of these historic skirmishes taking place in an extremely cold winter from December 1460 to March 1461, it’s only fitting that both maps introduce a new weather mechanic that will set snow and sleet against ally and adversary alike.

Content updates will automatically add new items to be acquired in the game. The system is designed to reward players who have invested a lot of playing hours into the game and items will be immediately available for players to redeem though accumulated in-game currency. For those who are too impatient, there are also options to purchase in-game currency to secure content.

More details on the newly announced modes and maps to come throughout Q4, for more details on War of the Roses please visit the title’s official site at waroftherosesthegame.com

Coffee Stain Studios today announced that a Steam free weekend for Sanctum has begun and will run through the 14th.

This weekend, from October 11th through 14th, Sanctum will be free to play on Steam, meaning that anyone who’s been on the fence can now check out all of the sci-fi tower defense FPS action for free. Additionally, both the base game and the Sanctum Collection, which bundles the original game, both map packs, and the official soundtrack together in one package, will be available at a 75% discount. As a perk for those who’ve already purchased Sanctum, the DLC packs will be available separately at a 20% discount over the weekend.

Sanctum is a fresh take on the tower-defense genre and places the player right into the frenetic fray with tight first-person shooter gameplay. Gamers take the role as Skye, an elite soldier sent out to protect her hometown, Elysion One, from hordes of mysterious alien creatures. To succeed in the defense, players must construct and upgrade a labyrinth of defensive towers. When the havoc starts and the waves of baddies are unleashed, gamers jump right into the action with their own weapons to play a key role in the defense.

The campaign offers several tiers of involvement, with the requisite specialised reward packages available for the more enthusiastic investors. Firefly Studios today announced that Stronghold Kingdoms has gone gold and is set for a final release on October 17th.

“Firefly Studios has just announced that Stronghold Kingdoms will be leaving its open beta phase next week. Following on from the addition of Quests, the new Coat of Arms Designer, graphical updates and a milestone of one million registered players, Stronghold Kingdoms will be released with a new update that adds all-new sound effects to the game.

New sound effects have been one of the most frequently requested features for Stronghold Kingdoms, adding a layer of immersion to the game that appeals to players new and old. The Verge is reporting that investor Gary Lauder formed OL2 and purchased OnLive’s assets and intellectual property for just $4.8 million. That may seem like a big number to some people but keep in mind that Gaikai, a competing service, was purchased by Sony for $380 million in July.

Here’s a snippet:

“According to the document, OnLive’s management believed they wouldn’t be able to find any additional funding for the company or be able to sell the business as of August, and believed an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors (ABC) would be better than going bankrupt. It certainly seems so.

What’s harder to grasp is how OnLive’s assets could be worth only $4.8 million in total, especially considering that rival Gaikai sold for $380 million just a few months ago. According to OnLive assignee Insolvency Services Group, though, that’s the way it goes: the company claims to have hired independent third parties to value OnLive’s assets, and decided that they weren’t worth more to sell off piecemeal than if a single buyer could keep the company going.”

The Bethesda blog announces the launch of Dishonored in North America and France along with a review round-up. We plan on getting a review up this weekend but do have a Dishonored First Impressions article up now in the meantime. The game releases in Spain, Australia and New Zealand this Thursday and Friday for the rest of the world. In addition to the announcement a “Protips” article is up on the blog, which contains a collection of pointers by Harvey Smith, the co-creative director.

“You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the Empress. Framed for her murder and driven by revenge, you must become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card.

As you navigate a world torn apart by plague and oppressed by a government armed with strange new technologies, the truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city.

The choices you make will determine the fate of the world, but no matter what happens your old life is gone forever.”

Paradox Interactive today announced East vs. West: A Hearts of Iron Game, a new upcoming RTS game based on the Cold War.

“Players will be able to take control of ANY nation in those nerve-wracking decades in a strategy game with a host of tense features, from taking issues in front of the UN Security Council to nervously watching the game’s Doomsday clock.

So prepare to rise to a new historical challenge in “East vs. West: A Hearts of Iron Game“, the new game from BL-Logic and Paradox Development Studios set to release in Q2 2013. This grand strategy game takes you from the opening stalemate of the Cold War in 1946 to the end of over four decades of fear and apprehension in 1991.

Will you wield your air force, economy and nuclear supremacy like a cudgel, bludgeoning your neighbors into submission? Or select the sharper knife of politics and espionage? Without wanting to influence you, sir, your private collection of Spy Cards is ready and waiting to be deployed.

East vs. West: A Hearts of Iron Game will enter your blast radius in Q2 2013.”

Deadline.com is reporting that Fox is working on a Battlefield: Bad Company TV series, based on the Electronic Arts game franchise, that will feature the same main characters.

“Written by Eisendrath, Bad Company features the main characters from the game. It follows four renegade soldiers as they exit military life and enter the private sector. But trouble is never far behind as they realize their commanding officer had used them to further the ends of a shadow unit within the government and now wants them dead to cover his tracks. Eisendrath is executive producing with Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson and EA’s Patrick Bach and Patrick O’Brien.”

GOG.com has holding a major sale on over 30 classic Activision games. The sale goes for about 2 and a half hours from now, ending at 3:59 AM GMT.

“Grab your adult diapers; it’s about to get real messy down there! I just wanted to pass along word about GOG.com’s weekend promo, which features more than 30 games from Activision’s catalogue at 60% off the regular (already low) price.

When I say “more than 30” I’m kinda just making that up — it’s over 30 products, and when you include the games in bundles, it’s closer to 50 games, from just $2.39 to $3.99 each.

Which games are included? How about… King’s Quest. Arcanum? Gabriel Knight? Phantasmagoria? Yeah, not bad. Let people know, why don’t you?

Go check it out now… it ends on Tuesday Ocober 9 at 3:59 AM GMT.”
