Bohemia Interactive today released a new trailer for Carrier Command: Gaea Mission, which showcases the core mechanics in the upcoming action/strategy game.

“Based on the groundbreaking classic from 1988, Carrier Command: Gaea Mission offers a blend of first- and third-person vehicular combat with tactical and strategic elements. Set in a massive game environment – consisting of 33 unique islands hosting 6 distinct climatic zones – players are put in command of a futuristic military carrier holding multiple remotely controllable and customizable units. By traversing the seas and establishing a strategic network of island bases for mining, production and defense, players will set out to destroy their adversary’s carrier and conquer the archipelago on the planetoid Taurus.

The game features the Gaea Mission campaign, in which you follow a rich storyline involving Lieutenant Myrik, a member of a special United Earth Coalition taskforce that seeks to defeat the Asian Pacific Alliance. Alternatively, people can go head on with a mode similar to the original Carrier Command. This mode, named Strategy Game, enables players to set starting parameters such as enemy strength and available resources, which determine the difficulty and length of a game.

Bohemia Interactive’s Carrier Command: Gaea Mission will be in stores for both Windows PC & Xbox 360 on September 28, 2012 in Europe by Mastertronic Group Ltd. and October 2, 2012 in North America by Rising Star Games Inc.”

Paradox Interactive today released a new developer diary for March of the Eagles, the upcoming RTS game.

“Set for release early next year, “March of the Eagles” takes you the cabinet chambers and killing fields of Napoleonic Europe. Lead one of Europe’s great powers to victory and uphold or take down the Corsican upstart that sits on the throne of France.

The first developer diary was published today, and it focuses on the big picture – what “March of the Eagles” is all about and information about the geography, the design vision and the team’s ambitions. The developer diaries will be published on a weekly basis up until the release to take you deep inside the development of their strategy/wargame March of the Eagles.

In the first diary, Johan Andersson, Studio Manager at Paradox Development Studio introduces March of the Eagles:
“We like to think of all of our games as one big family, so, think of March of the Eagles as a love child with a lot of parents. It has the war focus from Hearts of Iron, the time frame and visuals from Europa Universalis, and victory conditions similar to those you’ve seen in Sengoku.”

As promised, the long awaited Blake Mesa, a Half-Life 2 total conversion modification of the original Half-Life, was released today. Many thought Black Mesa might never get a release and the mod has earned multiple vaporware awards by Wired Magazine. The mod is one of the first of 10 projects set to launch through Steam Greenlight but it’s not on Steam quite yet. Black Mesa can be downloaded from the following mirrors listed below.

“It’s been a long time coming, and we had a rough start this morning, but it’s out in the wild! Black Mesa is released! If you are having trouble with our mirrors on the main site, try the torrent, and help us seed!

More than anything, SPREAD THE WORD! We are giving this all away to the community, but the best payment we can possibly get is that we get as many people to download and play this game as possible! HELP US PROMOTE IT, EVERYWHERE!

Thanks guys! Today is a good day!”

The ~3GB files can be downloaded from GameUpdates (torrent), FileShack, GameFront, Gamer’s Hell, or ModDB.

Bohemia Interactive today announced the release of update v1.06 for Take On Helicopters, which also includes a free DLC pack called Take On Helicopters: Rearmed.

“Aside a large number of fixes, improvements and optimizations to the core engine, the new Downtown update also implements a major new free DLC called Take On Helicopters: Rearmed. This DLC offers a convenient way for people owning titles suchs as Arma 2, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, Arma 2: Combined Operations to get that content into Take On Helicopters.

Take On Helicopters Project Lead Joris-Jan van ‘t Land about the Rearmed initiative:

“When we initially developed Take On Helicopters, its focus was on civilian flight. We still believe in this non-combat gameplay, but of course our studio’s origins lie in military gaming. By using some clever ways of merging installed products, without the player having to tweak manual settings, it is now possible to combine the two worlds. Take On Helicopters gets an incredible amount of new content, while many of the improvements are applied to it as well. I love flying a helicopter over Chernarus, bathed in improved lighting and covered by the beautiful clouds. Takistan is a more detailed part of South Asia and the ideal playground for combined arms desert operations.”

Additionally, a number of fixes and improvements to the core technology, which had recently been applied to other Bohemia Interactive games via the Operation Arrowhead beta patch program, have been ported across to Take On Helicopters – resulting in a significant performance boost when flying over densely populated areas such as Seattle Downtown, plus increased stability in the multiplayer code.

Last but not least, aspiring pilots might like to know that the price of Take On Helicopters, and the Take On Helicopters: Hinds DLC, has been significantly reduced. It means people can now start flying for up to 37% less than the original price.

To apply the Downtown update (including the free Rearmed DLC), players can download the installer from the updates section on the game’s official website. The Steam version of Take On Helicopters will be updated automatically.”
