Ubisoft has announced that "Far Cry 2" has been shipped and will be in stores tomorrow.

"Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Far Cry 2 will be the newest innovation from Ubisoft in the world of next-gen first-person shooters. More than just a visual and technological achievement, Far Cry 2 immerses players in an entirely new kind of gaming experience. Running on a new tailor-made gaming engine, Far Cry 2 features non-scripted enemy Artificial Intelligence, entirely destructible environments, dynamic fire and storm effects, and multiplayer gameplay, all in a completely open-world, 50-square-kilometer environment. Players will find themselves immersed in a war-torn African state, where they will be forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to survive and move ever closer to their primary objective – the Jackal. Players must identify and exploit their enemies’ weaknesses, neutralizing their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

“From the beginning, we’ve set out to create a truly dynamic, open-world experience in Far Cry 2,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Ubisoft. “Our team has focused on pulling players into the realistic African landscape to allow them to fully immerse themselves in the game’s riveting conflict. We’re confident that we’ve created not only one of the most remarkable shooters in recent years, but also one of the year’s best games.”

Far Cry 2 has an ESRB of “M” for Mature and will be available at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $59.99 for Xbox 360 and the PLAYSTATION 3 system and at $49.99 for Windows PC.

LucasArts and BioWare have announced "Star Wars: The Old Republic," a new story driven MMORPG set in the timeframe of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic franchise.

"Star Wars: The Old Republic, being developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, represents an innovative approach to interactive entertainment, featuring immersive storytelling, dynamic combat and intelligent companion characters.

In Star Wars: The Old Republic, players will explore an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire divides the galaxy. Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or a variety of other classic Star Wars roles, defining their personal story and determining their path down the light or dark side of the Force. Along the way, players will befriend courageous companions who will fight at their side or possibly betray them, based on the players’ actions. Players can also choose to team up with friends to battle enemies and overcome incredible challenges using dynamic Star Wars combat.

“Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the most critically acclaimed Star Wars game in LucasArts history and a preeminent example of our company’s interactive storytelling heritage,” said Darrell Rodriguez, President of LucasArts. “For a long time, we’ve wanted to return to the franchise in a grand way, and we felt that the best setting for it was an online world that would allow millions of people to participate in the experience together. We knew that the developer capable of working with us to deliver an engrossing story with a fully-realized online world was BioWare.”

“Traditionally, massively multiplayer online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars – combat, exploration and character progression,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder and General Manager/CEO of BioWare and General Manager/Vice President of Electronic Arts Inc., “In Star Wars: The Old Republic, we’re fusing BioWare’s heritage of critically-acclaimed storytelling with the amazing pedigree of Lucasfilm and LucasArts, and adding a brand-new fourth pillar to the equation – story. At the same time, we will still deliver all the fun features and activities that fans have come to expect in a triple-A massively multiplayer online game. To top it all off, Star Wars: The Old Republic is set in a very exciting, dynamic period in the Star Wars universe.”

Added Dr. Greg Zeschuk, Co-Founder and Vice President Development Operations, BioWare and Vice President, Electronic Arts Inc., “Star Wars: The Old Republic is set roughly 300 years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic, a timeframe that is completely unexplored in the lore. BioWare has been able to add to the Star Wars history in developing the game’s story and has created an overarching narrative that players can enjoy, regardless of their play style. Our goal is to offer players an emotionally rewarding experience that combines the traditional elements of MMO gameplay with innovations in story and character development.”

Additional details on Star Wars: The Old Republic features, gameplay and release date will be announced at a later time. For more information about Star Wars: The Old Republic and to sign up for future product updates, please visit www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com."

Oh yeah, seems like the guys over at Remedy are still working on the game. After all these years, the game still looks pretty darn impressive. Nice sense of mystery and hints at something supernatural keeps things interesting and hopefully, Remedy’s newest game will have the narrative power as their last two games, Max Payne 1 & 2. I’m still hoping for dense, almost laughably awesome metaphors, too.

G4’s X-Play announced that the 2009 E3 conference will much larger but still not technically open to the public.

"In case you missed the big reveal on X-Play moments ago, here’s the word on E3 2009:

  • It will happen on June 2nd-June 4th at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
  • While E3 2009 still won’t be technically open to the public, the ESA plans on getting rid of the rigorous vetting procedure that has kept attendance down for the last couple of years. So expect attendance to shoot up by the thousands!
  • As for the return of booth babes… that’s still to be determined, but we have our fingers crossed.

So it looks like a return to the E3 of old is in the cards, folks. Keep your web browsers tuned to G4tv.com and your TV tuned to X-Play tomorrow, and we’ll bring you the official E3 details from the Entertainment Software Association."

Obsidian’s next RPG aims for something that totally breaks their D&D and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. roots with Alpha Protocol. There’s zero gameplay to speak of, but this brief CG trailer does give us a look at what kind of feel Alpha Protocol is aiming for. Gritty realism seems to be the name of the game and considering that Obsidian is stock full of talented people, everyone should keep their eyes on this game. Besides, Chris Avellone is the writer and lead designer for this game, so you can at least be assured that the dialogue will flow like poetry. That’s good, in case you’re wondering.

Mythic Entertainment has announced that two new careers will be added to "Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning" this winter, which will be titled the Empire’s Knight of the Blazing Sun and the Dark Elf Black Guard.

"They may be on different sides of the war, but these two heavily armored warriors have one thing in common: they can take as much punishment as they deal out on the battlefield!

The Knights of the Blazing Sun are devoted to the cult of Myrmidia, goddess of warfare and protector of civilization. These frontline combatants specialize in Battlefield Commands, using applied tactical knowledge to outmaneuver their enemies and lead their allies to victory.

The Dark Elf Black Guard, on the other hand, care little for tactics or guile. The embodiment of hatred and disdain, they make up the elite of the Witch King’s soldiers. Equipped with the finest armor and sharpest blades, the Black Guard is an indestructible wall of hate against which all foes are crushed.

Based on the popular tabletop war game from Games Workshop, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning features revolutionary Realm vs. Realm™ conflict that will provide an engaging battleground for years to come. Available now for PC, WAR is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB.

I’m sure you’re tired of all the text that’s been posted by this point, so here’s a World at War multi-player trailer. Take a gander at the new perks and the hound dogs you can unleash once get a 7 killstreak. If there’s anything I’ve learned while playing Call of Duty 4’s single-player, it’s that dogs are infinitely more dangerous than the guys trying to gun you down.

It’s really been 7 years since the last Red Alert game? That’s pretty crazy. Anyway, it’s finally launching in two weeks. Get ready for more of the parallel universe absurdity. Includes dolphins that can shoot lasers and samurai robots.

"After seven years, the wait is almost over. The return to the over-the-top, time-altered universe of Red Alert – where parachuting armored bears, George Takei, war dolphins and psionic Japanese school girls can co-exist without question – is almost here! EA Los Angeles is announcing today that Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 has gone gold for the PC and will ship to retail stores on October 28th, 2008.

Red Alert 3 brings back everything fans enjoy about the series, from the fast, fluid and fun gameplay, to the humorous tone and distinct art style, while adding new innovations for the entire genre including three separate campaigns designed for fully co-operative play and an unprecedented emphasis on naval gameplay. And it would not be a Red Alert game without live-action cinematics featuring the largest cast in the history of video games, starring in over an hour’s worth of high-definition movies, including the likes of Gemma Atkinson, Gina Carano, Randy Couture, Tim Curry, Kelly Hu, Jenny McCarthy, Jonathan Pryce, Autumn Reeser, J.K. Simmons, Peter Stormare, George Takei and more.

Aside from the standard edition of Red Alert 3, EA is also offering die-hard Red Alert and Command & Conquer fans the Red Alert 3 Premier Edition – a limited edition package that includes a bonus DVD with over an hour of exclusive content, including interviews with the cast and a behind the scenes look at the shooting of the game’s cinematic sequences. The Premier Edition is also packed full of additional Red Alert 3 goodness, including exclusive multiplayer maps, strategy tips from the development team, the official soundtrack and an exclusive beta key to a future Command & Conquer game. For fans of the series who want to reserve their version of the Premier Edition or regular edition now, EA is also offering the following special pre-order package*:

• Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 – One of the most beloved RTS games of all time for FREE!
• From Fighter to Assassin – A featurette on EliteXC superstar, Gina Carano.
• Red Alert Retrospective – A look back at Command & Conquer Red Alert, Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 and Command & Conquer: Yuri’s Revenge
• Premier Edition Sneak Peek – Exclusive previews of Raising of the Iron Curtain, From Pens to Pixels, Command School, and BattleCast Primetime
• Exclusive multiplayer/skirmish map for Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 when the game ships
• Exclusive Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 desktop wallpapers

And as an additional bonus, everyone who purchases either the Premier Edition or regular version of Red Alert 3 will receive a “Women of Red Alert 3” poster and a redemption code for the Kossar’s Helm, an exclusive in-game item for EA and Mythic Entertainment’s critical hit Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Using this traditional Soviet hat turns your character into a bear – you don’t want to be seen rampaging through WAR’s capital cities without it!

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 is also shipping for the Xbox 360 on November 11th, 2008. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

*Pre-order packages are available at most retailers now, though offers vary by retailer and territory."

Paradox has recently announced their new expansion for the Europa Universalis: Rome and it’s set for Q4 2008 release date. Paradox promises to overhaul the interface and include tons of other improvements. Honestly, I’m way too inept to handle a game of this scope and complexity, but I’m sure there are fans who can’t wait for this. Press release for more details:

"Paradox Interactive are excited to announce the upcoming expansion for their Grand Strategy title Europa Universalis: Rome in Vae Victis, scheduled for release via digital download on GamersGate during the latter half of Q4 2008.

Vae Victis depicts the golden age of the Roman Republic where everything gets decided via the Senate Not only does the Senate assign the player more or less difficult tasks, it can also block diplomatic actions outright depending on the current power of the five political parties.
Monarchies will get a council consisting of nine characters. The Council does not have the power of the Senate, but the councillors can cause trouble if the line of succession is not to their taste.

Character improvement features in Vae Victis:
• A new character overview screen containing anumber of filters for browsing your characters including employed, unemployed and imprisoned characters.
• Characters have ambitions (think character missions.) Fulfilling them will yield different types of bonuses, and some ambitions will even influence character loyalty, political affiliation and behaviour.
• Governors are now in charge of whole regions rather than individual provinces. This both reduces micromanagement and makes the existing governors a lot more powerful and interesting.
• Characters now have a Prominence value that increases by holding prestigious offices, winning battles, etc. The most prominent characters will tend to marry and have children, which allows players to follow the fates of their favourite families throughout the game.
• Players can imprison, banish, or even execute characters. However, being too heavy-handed in getting rid of the opposition will increase the state Tyranny which has various detrimental effects.
Vae Victis features Decisions and Missions very similar to the ones seen in the EU:III expansion In Nomine, with the addition of special decisions called Laws, which, unlike regular decisions, can be more or less easily revoked.

Vae Victis will get a vastly improved interface and introduce a lot of handy shortcuts. For example, the Province view will be bigger, more informative and more interactive, allowing you to quickly peruse the diplomatic status of – and easily set up trade routes with – other countries. There is also the much-needed new character overview screen mentioned above, and a greatly expanded and interactive dynastic view.
