Paradox Interactive today announced the release of new DLC for Magicka titled The Other Side of the Coin.

“The evil expansion features a new campaign that puts evil-doers in the shoes of the baddies as they seek out to destroy all things good and gooder. We know one of those words in the last sentence doesn’t exist, but hey—when we say we’re bad, we mean bad at everything, including spelling. Take that, elementary school teachers!

Developed by Pieces Interactive in partnership with Arrowhead Game Studios, Magicka: The Other Side of the Coin enables players to take on the role of Alucart the Vampire and his gang of Necromancers. Besides being extremely ill tempered, they’re looking to sabotage the temporary peace between the elves, dwarves, and humans that rival vampire (we mean, not a vampire?) Vlad has worked so hard to build up. With evil at one’s fingertips, what could possibly go wrong?

Magicka: The Other Side of the Coin DLC launches today on leading digital distribution platforms for $4.99 USD. Get it here: www.magickagame.com/game-info/buy-the-game.”

Stardock today announced the release of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, a stand-alone expansion in the space strategy series.

“Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion combines the best elements of real-time strategy with the depth normally reserved for 4X games. Players take command of a space-faring civilization that is fighting for its very existence in a vast interstellar war. This conflict will see players colonize planets, battle pirates, research new technologies, conduct trade, use diplomacy and engage in epic battles with massive fleets.

In Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, years of unending conflict have resulted in internal strife within the three warring races – the Trader Emergency Coalition, the Vasari Empire and the Advent Unity. As a result, players can choose to play as a loyalist or rebel faction of the three races, each with their own techs and ships.

In addition to warring factions, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion also includes new “Titan” class warships. These massive vessels are fleets unto themselves and can unleash destruction across an entire star system. When matched with the additional new corvettes and capital ships, they create a variety of interesting tactical options for players.

The underlying game engine has also been overhauled to deliver state of the art graphics resulting in breathtaking visuals.”

Fatshark today announced the release of Krater on Steam, the top down post-apocalyptic RPG.

“We are very excited about inviting gamers to the world of KRATER, and experience the post-apocalyptic Sweden.” says Martin Wahlund, CEO and Executive Producer, Fatshark. “In KRATER death and injuries actually mean something. We want to bring back the feeling of being scared of dying from old school RPG’s.”

A new Kickstarter project aims to bring better and more realistic swordfighting to video games with sword-like controllers. The video on the Kickstarter page explains the project and also includes a hilarious cameo appearance by Gabe Newell working on a crowbar, who is known to have a significant knife collection.

“In the last couple of years, affordable new gear has come on the market that makes it possible to move, and control a swordfighter’s actions, in a much more intuitive way than pulling a plastic trigger or pounding a key on a keyboard. So it’s time to step back, dump the tired conventions that have grown up around trigger-based sword games, and build something that will enable players to inhabit the mind, body, and world of a real swordfighter.”
